Who We Serve

Mexico, Maine is also called “The Gateway to the Western Mountains.” The beauty of the area sometimes hides the poverty of those who live there. The median income for a family of four is $33,776 with per capita income being around $16,322, with 15% of the town living below the poverty line. This is a large amount of people and families when there are only 3,000 people in the town!(Wikipedia)

Over the years, nearby Rumford Mills as well as many of the lumber , companies in the area which used to provide jobs, have become highly mechanized and have reduced the number of human laborers needed to work in the industries. Jobs are scarce and are often low-paying or require traveling long distances to work. Almost half the population in the area consists of retirees.
